St. Lucy of Sicily whose feast falls on December 13 is venerated the world over as the protectress against eye trouble. Legend has it that she had the most beautiful pair of eyes and that she pulled them out to present them to an unwelcome suitor who was enamoured by their beauty.

Thewatta Church
The origins of this shrine date back to the beginning of this Century, when a little shrine to Our Lady of Lourdes (a little Chapel) was erected by a few Catholic laymen and Father A. Kieger OMI, in 1911, the area being then a part of the parish of Ragama. On 11 November 1917 Father A. Collorec OMI built a small Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes assisted by some Catholic workers from Colombo.
St. Mary's Church, Negombo
The St. Mary’s Church, Negombo is landmark edifice, a Roman Catholic church in the heart of the Negombo town. Its exterior surface is painted in pink colour. It is one of the largest cathedrals in Sri Lanka.
